Hero Canvas Project

The Framing Dames participated in a humanitarian project, along with children's book author Marja Perren of Dasha Flash'n Friends TM. The projects creator, and driving force, Ms Perren, contacted five schools in the Toronto area. The schools painted very large canvases which were based on the idea of what their idea of a hero was. The paintings ultimate destination is for the soldiers in Afghanistan.

After the paintings were completed they were brought to the Framing Dames for stretching onto stretcher frames. Everything was donated.

Once stretched the canvases were transported in order to receive a stand and then to a reception at the Royal Ontario Museum for an event on February 10, 2008, where all the children in attendance would be able to sign the back of the paintings and leave messages for the soldiers. The Canadian Military were in attendence in order to receive the paintings and to transport them to Afghanistan.

I volunteered in the Canadian Military after I completed University, so for me it was an honour to participate in such a worthwhile project that gave children a platform to have a voice in a world that is sometimes very difficult to understand.

I would like to Thank Ms Marja Perren for the opportunity to participate in a very exciting project.
